We celebrate these strong women with their families, friends and community leadership. This is the only course of its kind in Canada, specifically organized for First Nation women from Wataynikaneyap Power’s owner communities. Course structure from Canada’s Infrastructure Health and Safety Association provided graduates with 25 transferable certificates. Here, the trainees were performing the helicopter slinging exercise and worked in pairs. Trainee 1 used the helicopter hand signals to direct the helicopter to hover over Trainee 2, who then hooked up the long-lined net to the helicopter. Once the load was hooked up, Trainee 2 retreated to a safe area and Trainee 1 used hand signals to direct the helicopter to sling the load to a designated area. The trainees then switched roles. All trainees performed the exercise admirably!</image:caption>

This particular evening she was the only one who caught the 3 walleye we were able to have for supper the next day. Earth Day is ensuring we do our part in taking care of our environment for the animals and most importantly our children and future generations to come….and also because it’s my birthday!”</image:caption>
